In 1964 Martin Luther King Jr. received the Nobel Peace Prize for his leadership and advocation of nonviolent resistance during the Civil Rights movement. King accepted the award at the December 10, 1964, ceremony in Oslo, Norway. In his speech, King stressed that the struggle for equality in the United States was far from over
